I’ve had enough!

I have had enough of Hong Kong food.

I can safely say that since day 3 of day 5 in Hong Kong and I am already sick of Hong Kong food.

Well, Hong Kong is very similar to New York. Except I think more crowded, and more comfortable for my family because its an Asian country. Moreover, the food is really not that much different or better from Singapore’s. I think there’s a limit to how tasty dishes can get. There are some things I think are better in Singapore than HK, like the har kau and fishball noodles.

I stayed in Regal Oriental Hotel, Kowloon City, and the hotel itself was okay except that it was under renovation so the view from my hotel room were scaffolds. The other disadvantage is that it is really far from the shopping areas e.g. Mongkok.  The fastest way to Mongkok is taxi and it costs about 30HK dollar, but to Tsim Sha Tsui is about 60 HK dollar. There is a bus to Mongkok from outside the hotel, and it costs 6HK dollar. But the drivers can be a little reckless. Next to the hotel are many small shops and there are some good places for yum cha too.

One thing good about HK is the information board of the MTR line in the MTR itself. There are little bulbs next to the stations and it lights up or blinks etc when the train is at the respective stops etc. This is better than Singapore’s one where only an announcement is made. This is so much clearer.

No matter what, I still like my good ole Singapore. The variety of food here is so much better and so is the crowd level. In HK, some of the roads are closed just so pedestrians can walk on them. HAHA. Photos coming soon – hopefully!

And and… congratulations to Stanley and Madeline!

Holiday is coming!

Filed under: Life — yminisa @ 9:45 am

I am seriously looking forward to the December holidays! I’ll be going to HK, and also Laos, and KL.

I know that sounds crazy. HAHA. HK is a family trip with my parents. Anyone want anything from there? I can try to get it. I know two other people travelling to HK too. One before me and one after me. How conincidental!

Laos is for OCIP.
Followed by a little R & R in KL. Wanted Bangkok initially but political situation there not very ideal for R & R.

But FIRST, let me finish my ONE project, TWO presentations, THREE term papers, and FOUR final exams. Good Luck.

Happy Birthday Mik

Last week on 31st October we celebrated Mikaela’s birthday! (Her birthday is on 1st Nov). During our RMSS meeting, we said that it was time we took a break and so we led her downstairs while the others sneaked in to surprise her.

Here are some shots we took! Cant believe Mik and I were in the same JC orientation group. That seemed so long ago..

A Wedding Affair

Filed under: Life — yminisa @ 4:26 am

Just I attended my cousin’s wedding yesterday.

First I went to the airport to fetch my dad, who was coming back from Holland. And I had yummy Macs breakfast. Reached Limin’s house at around 8 plus and saw her ‘sisters’ preparing fo the tekan session. Some of the highlights were the groom wearing reindeer ears and pink shrek-like ears together with lipstick. They had to eat wasabi with biscuits, drink bitter stuffs and eat lemons. In addition, there was a really cute dance they had to do. The worse, I thought, was them having to put their feet in a pail of ice and water to find the right key to the brides’ room door. I’m sure it was really cold.

The dinner was at 88 restaurant and the food was good, but of course, the ambience cannot be compared to hotel venues.

What I took away from the wedding was what I wanted for my own wedding. I definitely want something that makes people go : wow, I want this for my wedding / if only i did this for my wedding. I am thinking maybe I should do away with the chinese dinner and go for a more westernised one. Or maybe I wont have tea ceremony in the house but at the hotel. It’d be good if I were able to have a dinner where there’s a dance floor for the wedding couple to take the first dance and guests will also join in. But who’s gonna dance man. None of the relatives will even step on the dance floor.

And for once, I want a REAL wedding cake.

Congratulations Steven and Limin!

SMUSAIC Celebrations!

Filed under: Life — yminisa @ 8:15 am

Another group of people that I want to thank are the lovelies from SMUSAIC who planned a birthday celebration for Shaun, Lionel and myself at Fish & Co followed by Giraffe, on 25th October 08.

Special thanks go to Felicia, Alex and Raf. Felicia worked really hard to plan the outing and reservations etc While Alex bought (on behalf of everyone) a $50 ALDO voucher (YAY!!!). Raf and Fel dedicated a song to me although by the time we heard it, the song was already playing and we didnt hear the dedication. HAHA.

Drinks at Giraffe followed a fulfilling fish and co dinner. And there was also a birthday cake which fel so kindly bought for the three of us. Chocolate cake! YUM!

Of course, I cannot leave out my wonderful friends namely Caroline and Bryan who put in so much effort to choose the presents and plan the dinner. And also the boyfriend, who’s always so sweet, thoughtful and cheekily lying about the birthday details. Derek, whom I celebrated my birthday with cos his birthday is today (HAPPY BIRTHDAY!). Jacq, our fellow dessert lover! Nartz and poor Ben, who got an allergy-like reaction post dinner. Thank you all of you for the fun Quad Date cum Birthday Dinner.

What are my presents??? Haha. My funny friends got me a polka dot backpack (which I am carrying today), a shirt with a picture of myself and caroline printed on it (which I am wearing today), a cute stripey sweater from topshop, and two knickers (which I think u’d appreciate if I didnt elaborate on the deisigns they chose). And I am looking forward to more presents from the boyfriend and my family!

Will be posting some photos soon!

Livre Laos III

So now all the interviews are over and out selection of suitable candidates is over. WE have semi decided who’s in and who’s not, and the positions for wach member too. What’s left is the calling and emailing to do! I do hope that everyone will be content with their assigned posts! And I am definitely looking forward to an enriching and meaningful trip with wonderful R & R !!!

Well, Laos seem less intimidating after reading the Lonely Planet guide to Laos.

Beer and Cars.

Filed under: Life — yminisa @ 3:43 am

Went to Ice Cold Beer with the ruggers and bimbo yesterday. Had lotsa fun drinking jaggerbombs (is that how u spell it?) eating beef wraps and POPCORN.

Pictures coming soon!

Caught some Formula 1 action too. Haha. What I really mean is that I only heard the sound of the cars. We were all walking around Raffles MRT station and trying to sneak a peek at the racing track amidst all the bobbing heads and smelly bodies.

BUT, when I was taking 36 home with the Boyfriend….. BOY DID THE VIEW LOOK GOOD FROM THERE! You should take 36 home too. I could see the racing cars so clearly!

I think that having a Fomula 1 race against the back drop of the Singapore night sky is just B-E-A-U-tiful.

It’s an art.

As u can see, the first three pictures are the same. They ARE the same… The thing is, when u look through different coloured glass, they appear differently. This piece of art is on Raffles City building. It is really amazing how differently the picture appears when u look through different coloured glass. Drop by to have a look! It’s at the junction leading to the SMRT Headquarters.

Below are also more photos that I took for the Viewfinder event happening now. We are to take photos on the theme ‘A day in the life of an SMU student’.

AND, my maid says she wants to go back to Indonesia to marry. To marry another girl. Like… HUH ????

Chao SMUgger

Haha. Recently I’ve been a chao mugger!

Ok la, I cannot say that everytime I study I am 100% efficient. But at least I study! It’s rather insane, how much people study and how they are willing to stay in school till so late to study.

Seems like once term starts, social life just DIES.

I found my favourite drink in SMU! And that’s Mocha Milo from Edmund’s. It’s rather similar to Starbucks’ Iced Signature Chocolate but at one quarter of the price!! YUM YUM!

Everyday I face a problem : What should I wear tmr??
