A Photo A Day

Filed under: Uncategorized — yminisa @ 5:16 pm

Came across a blog where the author would post a photo a day. It can be of anything, from a place he went, to a special tree, or a dish he ate. Of course, it has the potential of being very boring but I looked through and it was quite intriguing some of them.

Coca Steamboat

I have heard so much about this place, I finally went to try it on 29th Jan 09. It was a celebration dinner for En Jian’s 22nd birthday. People who went along were  Bryan and Caroline, Derek and Jacq, Ashraf and Ben. Ashraf was in-charge of En Jian’s present and he did a great job! He bought a formal shirt from Zara, and a pair of berms from Banana Republic which looked really good! Derek also got En Jian a pair of Skins from Aussie and also a pair of pretty Havs.

Celebration aside, let’s talk about Coca. To be honest, I was utterly disappointed.

Decoration, settings, service was really fantastic and totally worth my 10% service charge. The staff helped us and gave very thoughtful service and advice. However, the food was alot below expectations. Things like prawns, fish glue and fish slices are my favourite dishes which I would clean at steamboat. However, the prawns were nearly tasteless, the fish glue tasted like glue and the fish slices were slightly decent only. The soup however, was quite nice.

For good steamboat, go to Mini Steamboat at Parkway Parade Basement.

Road Accident at Marine Parade Road Junction

Filed under: Uncategorized — yminisa @ 7:52 am

On 28th January 2009, I was crossing the road towards Parkway Parade with Cranky Caroline when we heard a loud crash. There, right in front of our eyes, an accident took place.

A Pizza Hut delivery man crashed into a MPV. The bag containing the pizza fell off his bike and rolled onto the floor. The glass of the MPV was shattered.

It was a horrifying sight for both of us. Although the delivery man didnt look like he was hurt badly, there was blood flowing from his mouth. I saw him squirmed. I saw him try to move, then stopped. On the other hand, the MPV moved to a safer location and the passenger seat door of the MPV opened and I heard screams. There were children in the car, and they were really shaken.

Bystander Apathy kicked in for 30 seconds, until I organised my thoughts and had a clear enough mind to call the ambulance. I reported the location and situation and prayed hard for the delivery man. He was still motionless.

Thank God there was a police post nearby, the policeman came out to direct the traffic and semi-checked on the guy. The fear that Caroline and I felt is hard to put into words. The accident happened so quickly and within such a short distance of us, we just thank God we are safe, albeit shivering from the fear.

The ambulance came awhile later. By that time, there were hoardes of Indian workers crowding around and being kaypos. We couldnt see a thing. I don’t know what happened to the delivery man in the end. I can only pray that he is fine.

Lord, give me courage to drive.

Chinese New Year!

Filed under: Uncategorized — yminisa @ 2:06 pm

As usual, this Chinese New Year I’d be going back to Malacca to visit my relatives. Its kinda boring sometimes, going back yearly, doing the same old things. The only thing that spices it up is the gossip.

But I find myself having some sort of revelation whenever I go there. I am always amazed by the culture and lifestyle there and it only serves to make me appreciate my life more. What I really thank God for every time I go back is the renewed sense of confidence in PAP. Meritocracy is the way to go.

With all the Little Nyonya craze, I’m gonna go back to Malacca to get myself some Nyonya fix too. But actually I get it every year so its nothing special. A lot of the scenes from the Little Nyonya are familiar to me as I’ve walked the streets and houses they filmed the show in. BUT I dont remember exactly where they are. I only know its in the tourist district.

I saw Charis today at Ice Cream Chef’s ! WOW ! What a great time we had catching up with my dear friend! How I wish I will be able to go to Aussie to visit her before she’s back. Speaking of which, she will be coming back for good at the end of this year ! YAY !

Internships

Filed under: Uncategorized — yminisa @ 11:15 am

I am on the hunt for an internship during my Summer Holidays.

Currently looking to the tourism/hospitality industry but am open to trying out an internship at a PR/consulting firm. Then again, all these are not really social science based internships so hopefully my credentials are sufficient to get me an internship should there be competition by others.

I prayed for a reply by today (which I got – albeit negative) as a sign that God has this in His hands. Therefore, I am praying for continued favour and for a positive reply soon. AMEN!

12th January 2009

On that fateful day as per the title of this post, I PASSED MY DRIVING.

After 10 arduous months (although there was a 1 half months hiatus). After numerous dreadful bus and MRT rides to COMFORT DRVING CENTRE at UBI. After 1 try at a driving test. After striking the kerb twice. After one unecessary stopping. I PASSED.

Now I just dont ever wanna see UBI again.
