Carousel

Filed under: Uncategorized — yminisa @ 4:16 pm

Here are some pictures from the dinner at Carousel. It was a really yummy dinner. Lotsa good food. The best was the cold food. WOW. Best spread ever that I have seen at a buffet. The hot food was good but it cannot beat the cold food. As for dessert, you MUST MUST MUST try the bread and butter pudding. The stuffs in little shot glasses are good too depending on what you like. But generally they are good. This is my second time there and there were some different desserts – variety GOOD. And they clear the plates really fast!

Considering price, ambience, service, and food – 8.5/10

Good for gatherings and birthdays. Not really ideal for couples. And its HALAL! I guess the 1.5 points went to the so-so hot food, and ironically, how difficult it is to get a booking there.

SMUSAIC Celebrations!

Filed under: Life — yminisa @ 8:15 am

Another group of people that I want to thank are the lovelies from SMUSAIC who planned a birthday celebration for Shaun, Lionel and myself at Fish & Co followed by Giraffe, on 25th October 08.

Special thanks go to Felicia, Alex and Raf. Felicia worked really hard to plan the outing and reservations etc While Alex bought (on behalf of everyone) a $50 ALDO voucher (YAY!!!). Raf and Fel dedicated a song to me although by the time we heard it, the song was already playing and we didnt hear the dedication. HAHA.

Drinks at Giraffe followed a fulfilling fish and co dinner. And there was also a birthday cake which fel so kindly bought for the three of us. Chocolate cake! YUM!

All of you were really sweet, remembering my birthday and sending me greetings (although some of you wished earlier/later – its still appreciated) !

Of course, I cannot leave out my wonderful friends namely Caroline and Bryan who put in so much effort to choose the presents and plan the dinner. And also the boyfriend, who’s always so sweet, thoughtful and cheekily lying about the birthday details. Derek, whom I celebrated my birthday with cos his birthday is today (HAPPY BIRTHDAY!). Jacq, our fellow dessert lover! Nartz and poor Ben, who got an allergy-like reaction post dinner. Thank you all of you for the fun Quad Date cum Birthday Dinner.

What are my presents??? Haha. My funny friends got me a polka dot backpack (which I am carrying today), a shirt with a picture of myself and caroline printed on it (which I am wearing today), a cute stripey sweater from topshop, and two knickers (which I think u’d appreciate if I didnt elaborate on the deisigns they chose). And I am looking forward to more presents from the boyfriend and my family!

Will be posting some photos soon!

26th October 2008

Filed under: Uncategorized — yminisa @ 5:11 pm

I had a really fulfilling day today. First off I started with breakfast at Old Airport Road Hawker Centre with the boyfriend and the mum. And bought some really nice muffins too!

Then the boyfriend dropped us at Suntec before heading for his Old Boys’ rugby game at ACS (I). So the Mum and I had a good time shopping and having drinks. I saw Shaun!! Haha. Bought a pair of shorts and a scarf. Think it was not very cheap but I am very happy with my purchase. The worse part of this trip to Suntec is how we booked a trip to Hongkong/Macau on impulse! Haha. So now i’m headed to HK/Macau on 3rd Dec and it was all decided within a few minutes. Got to talk to my daddy today too. He’s in the Netherlands on business trip. Which also means that he would not be around during my birthday. : ( I believe that this is the first birthday that I am spending without him. I do hope he comes back soon. I’m semi looking forward to the HK trip – would be quite fun to eat and shop all day long! Cost is about $1166 per person, flying by SQ.

Then Mum and I went to visit my Aunt at TTSH cos she’s not well and all. Really sad seeing my vivacious aunt lying in the hospital bed. But it was also good to see she was not wallowing in self pity or pain.

Afterwhich I went to ACS (I) with Carol Wello to watch the boys play. Quite interesting to see them playing a game of touch. They look like they were quite slack about it. And knowing their competitive streak, the won 1st place. However, you got to admit that a game of touch cannot beat contact rugby man. Contact’s got so much more action! Carol and I had lotsa fun laughing at Bryan’s shouting and also how they gave a cap with the words ‘WINNER Touch Fest III / 2008′ as the prize. Touch fest just sounds damn wrong.

Then we headed for a triple date to Parkway Mini Steamboat (EJ and I, Derek and Jac, Bryan and Carol). YUM YUM. It’s really nice! My favourite’s the Live Prawns, House Pork Balls (mixed), and also the Fish Glue. Today, it cost about $20 per person. Not very cheap definitely but it was worth all the fun and taste-bud satisfying moments we had. Derek was really sweating so much although he hasn’t even started!

After which the Boyfriend kindly offered to fetch my mum who was still accompanying my aunt at TTSH. So sweet of him. I thank God for him!

I’m so full and I’m satiated.

Oh I am SO pissed off by people who WEEK AFTER WEEK say: I have alot of things to do / I have many deadlines to meet.

And more so if it means that person doesn’t appreciate the fact that he/she is already getting the least amount of work.

AND, I am really pissed when people depend on me totally to get things done when it is clearly a GROUP project. I did not appoint myself as the freaking leader so don’t appoint me on auto mode.

Livre Laos V

Filed under: Uncategorized — yminisa @ 11:42 am

So we are meetin with some problems with our project. The universities in Laos either don’t have a sufficiently good level of English for us to conduct our events, or they are busy with other things, or they are not available for comments. Haha. Now we are even considering going to Luang Prabang. I wonder what we can do to help ourselves. Is there anyone out there willing to take us??

Wedding Photojournalism

Filed under: Uncategorized — yminisa @ 4:38 pm

One of my favourite photo sites is http://www.wpja.com/

This is a wedding photojournalist association which has quarterly competitions for photogrpahers all over the world. Looking at the winning photos make me feel really amazed at how much photography can do. Another feelin that I get is how weddings transcend boundaries and basically, is very similar everywhere in terms of emotions.

My personal favourite would be the Humour category. I guess cos I’m naturally not a easily – depressed person, I very much prefer shots that make me say ‘OH MY GOODNESS!’

Nailed It.

Filed under: Uncategorized — yminisa @ 5:19 pm

I HAD really long nails. I just cut them off. Now it feels REALLY weird.

Suddenly it isnt noisy anymore when I type on the laptop – cos the nails that come into contact with the keyboard is gone.

Suddenly I am missing all the keys on the keyboard – cos the nails that I use to type with are replaced by fingertips. Since a good 1cm is gone, when i wanna press ‘a’ i end up pressing ‘z’. HAHA.

It’s REALLY quiet now. Thought I should give my nails a rest from all the colouring.

I went to the National Museum today. My main purpose was to see the photography exhibition by Chang Chien-Chi – Doubleness.

It was a really provocative exhibition. Made me think about social issues. There is a lot of repetition in terms of the shots but its the repetition that brings out the seriousness of the issue. Having all four walls surrounding you filled with pictures of mentally disabled people chained up is not only scary, but unimaginable – cos its actually happening TODAY, in such an advanced period of civilisation.

The series on the illegal chinese immigrants in NYC Chinatown was even more meaningful to me cos of my recent trip there. Never did I once thought about the lives of these immigrants, illegal or not, when I was enjoying Chinatown. I know they didnt lead easy lives, but I was too naive. This exhibition showed me the other side of the story.

Do go see the exhibition! It’s only $2.50 for students. Plus, there are many other exhibitions there which are part of Singapore International Photography Festival that are free.

Oh Lord, I put the lives of my loved ones in Your Mighty Hands. I know You have a plan.

Mid Term Break, as expected, hasnt been much of a break!

But here’s something that has been keeping me company!

http://www.boston.com/bigpicture/2008/10/earth_from_above_comes_to_nyc.html

There are really nice and inspiring photos there. Do take a look!

Also, I have been hugely hugely humoured by Jeff Dunham!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1uwOL4rB-go

You MUST watch this….. it’s HILARIOUS. It wont be ten minutes wasted. Don’t get turned off by the length! The facial expressions of the puppet’s just amazing! And the sense of humour is MARV!
